The Law Of The Hammer

I. Two Important Notes On Codices:

  1. There are people who do not have vast stone tablets y-graven with the rules and laws, divisions and jointlings, commentaries and underspeaches, additional rules, thoughts on the rules, rules on the thoughts on the rules and thoughts on the rules on the rules.
  2. These people are not Dwarves.

II. More On Hammers

Durbor said, “This is the Law of the Hammer:”

“First, know the place. Then, know the strike. Then, know the follow-through.”

Jacko said: “No. This is the Law of the Hammer:

“Break and join are both part of the same whole. Don’t be afraid to shatter if you have the confidence to build.”

Mujo said nothing. While the others had been speaking, he had been carving a little figure, standing erect, crude, but distinguishable, out of a piece of basalt.
“This,” he said, placing it upon the ground, “is the Law of the Hammer.”
Durbor looked at it. He looked a long time.
“Sloppy arris on that helm, he said. “That’s going to slice somebody, you don’t edge that down a bit.”
