As Winter Comes, And The Bogeymen Shyly leave their closets

If you believe there’s a bogeyman in your closet, you’re right. Who are you going to believe? You and your mind and senses, or some over-equipped researcher who sees you as just another home, just another room, just another haunting she can barely prove.

No, bogeymen move fast (but only in self-defense; not for altruistic reasons, but because of the Great Shock, which was drilled into their thick heads in the 19th century) and can be out from behind your doos tr and behind something before you move the door six inches.

This would be awful if, as the 17th century predicted, bogeymen ate children, and they DO.

They just haven’t for a long time.

With the rise of Science, most of my friends were forced into the Dark. This is a general positive for those Humans who don’t want to be devoured in the streets by invisible demons like that poor Arabian author. But it does also mean that the Dark, which was not always the home of all dark things, is sure a comfortable home for now.

This has been tried for a long time; we voted in it in September. But it’s finally cool enough for us to head out.

So, I don’t know. Next time you sneak into your bed at 2 a.m. with a midnight snack, you don’t want to wake you family or roommates or partern…

…then I promise I’ll be neighborly and say hello.

No need to scream. Plus, you’d wake everyone up.
