“Where there is no mind, no thought to distract from action, then you may act freely.”
-Musashi
“Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!”
-Louis the Goblin
One of the greatest challenges of the misfortune of not being a Goblin is an unhealthy obsession with checking on time, all the time, and then suffering pretty much the same stress you’ have if you actually missed your thing. Why go through all the pain? We goblins see a puddle and think “that’s worth looking at! There has probably NEVER been a puddle of that exact shape and form, any more than there is a single coastline which looks exactly, precisely like every other coastline.
It’s like fractals and coastlines, you know?
GOBLIN NOTE: Perfection may or may not be possible, but is almost always the actual opposite of creation.
” You see a puddle and think “I should walk around it so my shoes stay clean.” We can’t complain because, now that I think about it, I forgot to put on shoes today. As I have for the last 379 days, barring the Queen’s coronation, where I wore socks.
But I see what upsets you. You’d rather nod disrupt the norm or create more work for yourself. But the Universe will ALREADY do that. Why are YOU worried about it? Might as well let it happen and get the practice. Hapkido teaches us that we don’t need to make the first move; we can respond to the situation fluidly.
Which doesn’t ALWAYS involve pouring a bucket of water on its head. We’re not THAT literal.
Often, anyway.
So okay. This one time, as many Goblins as could be convinced to care voted on a Council to decide what was truly Goblineseque.
The counsel met for twenty-three minutes. Seventeen minutes were spent criticizing the décor. The rest was taking the small but significant stipend each Goblin had been offered to work on this….to hire the Dwarves to settle this problem.
They’re working on it.
In the meantime:
The Simple Goblincore Principles
- If it looks interesting, it probably is. Go look.
- If they don’t let you look, it must be REALLY interesting
- If it’s boring, you have enough taste not to pretend it isn’t BO-RING. And you have the graciousness to make sure EVERYONE AROUND YOU KNOWS IT’S BORING.
- If you like something, and you can have it without hurting anybody except maybe you, it’s all yours.
3.5 If a rule doesn’t seem to help anyone, it’s probably not that important.
4.5 Pockets are for things you might want later.
- Curiosity is free. Use as much as you like.
