Arthur wasn’t irresponsible, but he wasn’t king material. He wanted to make stuff, big rooms in big houses when possible. And when he took a look at that sword embedded from the stone, he said,
“That ain’t comin’ out.”
But Arthur was told he was destined to pull the stone. Well, he liked stone, and it was good marketing. Arthur’s Quarry, Arthur’s Architectural Megaliths, and so forth, did extremely well.
One day, the great sage Merlin came by Arthur’s place of business and explained that he was needed. Arthur held up a hand and called in some people. They dynamited the stone and handed the sword to Arthur. They seemed bored, as if they’d practiced that a lot.
“No problem.” said Arthur. “I’m assuming the Kingdom needs to buy some stone?”
Arthur rules now. He seems a good choice. And his castle actually came in under-budget, which was rare those days, or any days
No-one ever quite had the encourage to ask Merlin about it, but do you REALLY think he could trapped in a tree entirely because he didn’t recognize a magical trap when he saw one?
