Three Poems: Cats, Dionysus, and One More

Behold the Cat
(for I assure:
the Cat
surely
beholds you.)

Behold the Cat
(Master or slave?
Depends on how
the petting holds you.)

Behold the Cat! Sleeping now
By the warmth of an artificial fire.
Behold the Cat! What secrets he knows
But refuses to conspire.

Oh! What pleasant hours I’ve spent
In the arms of Dionysus
Who wraps me lovingly in his arms
And assures me here’s no crisis.

Oh! For a moment of pleasures Dionysian
I’d gladly forsake the passive eternity
of pleasures mere Elysian.

Into grape and barley my hopes I sunk
But I seldom vanish when properly drunk.
That escape is blocked
By they way I was wakened, shaken, shattered, and unlocked.

___

My simple hope for twenty-twenty-six
Is that some people still read for kicks.
And if they do, then I hope I
Can stay more interesting than AI.
