The Improv Classroom of Death

It wouldn’t even be accurate to say that everyone who entered the room to take an improv class died. Granted, when everyone around you had perished with terrible expressions of ultimate Doom and you were lying there, wondering when it would kick in and eventually realized YOU had been spared, you might wonder if you were lucky, or just terrible.

You’d think that improv teachers would stop assigning exercises which ended in death, in which case, you haven’t met actors. There ARE actors who lack a strong dose of IT COULDN’T HAPPEN TO ME..but I’ve seldom met any of them.

The room had now killed five classes. It was in high demand for meetings, discussions, art projects (nothing experimental, to be on the safe side) and even acting classes. Acting seemed fine. IMPROV, now…IMPROV, the room REALLY hated.

It wasn’t a bad way to spend about 5 hours napping, either.

And most improv was perfectly safe. Pretend there was no gravity, no problem. Pretend you were the wealthiest person on the island, no problem. Pretend you’d just been poisoned and had to die in a horrible way, problem.

Some said the room was a trap for Nafoombah, God of Wine. But while Nafhoombah was the God of wine and therefore lies and therefore acting, he wasn’t the god of improv itself. So the room had never snared him yet, though it had come close. He still held services in there; it was resonant for his voice.

It was frequently brought before the Town Council that nobody should be allowed to open an improv studio there, or if they did, they should under no circumstances fake dying.

The Town Council always replied, “Haven’t you heard of Darwiin?” and went back to reading. The interrogator, who hadn’t, had to sit down dissatisfied.
