Leviathan,
Leviathan,
Knock all you want;
I won’t let you in.
Eyes the size of city-states,
Without friends or loves or mates.
Singular and yet complete,
Unloved, unseen, unheard, with arms replete.
Accuse it of gigantism
(Or underwater onanism)
In depths unseen by any eyes,
From which may It never, ever rise,
(Like Cthulhu it lies, dreaming, dead;
You could fit a Casbah on its head)
(Like Dagon, cold and endless swimming,
Nary a lock of hair for trimming)
(Like the monster of Loch Ness,
Though 137 times larger,
I guess.)
Leviathan, Leviathan,
Please leave me alone
And just eat my kin.
I.
Leviathan, Leviathan,
Swallowing itself within,
Putting aside Kraken and whale,
Chasing fast after its tail
into the future, quick!
catch your tail before its flick
can make impossible the grip
of your mouth’s horny tip.
For if you could retrace your track,
Sink your front into your back,
Could you not (you pray!) be led
By your tail instead of head?
