Saturnalia

I would never fail ya
I’ve prepared a Saturnalia
And they probably won’t jail ya
Unlike the last time
(Nudity’s not ALWAYS a crime.)

None of the sugary cereals are spiked
With Mega-Sugar (I’m so psyched)
None of them. None whatsoever.
Go ahead. Try a dose. I’m sure it’s clever.

The Theme is Christmas, and the last day of Fall
And the day they re-legalized alchol
And Bastille Day, and April Foos
And Halloween and all its ghouls:

We’re going to go mad
And we’re prepared to enjoy it.

Truth is this bachanal
Is as ambitious as wine would allow.

(And when we speak of wine,
We speak of Grecian wine;
A special kind of terrible, and yet
It’s such a lovely burst of inspiration to get.

The Fruit of the Vine grants me enthousiasmos
And an eternal understanding of the cosmos
And when I lie down, I do it next to a hammer
So I can bang my head to distract from the katzenjammer.

Drinking that syrupy, horrible wine brought smiles to faces
As most of us begin to feel Ekstasis
(One of your bards, Jim Croce by name, described it as
“How I start feelin’ better when I’m feelin’ no pain.)

Have you met Acratophorus?
More frightening for me than Horus;
His name turns my blood to brine;
He is the God of Unmixed Wine

Of Potency. Somewhat raw force
(And Madness at its source.)
He, even more than Dionysus
Represents the frenzy we can’t leave behind us.

I lift the Kantharos
Freer than sparrows,
Shout “Dionysus!”
And drink like the flood of wine was a crisis,

But hangovers tomorrow
And bother us not with sorrow.
Let us form a wild Thiasos!
Let’s get outrageous!

….and then we’ll et some sleep.
