You who stole my heart, ha-ha!
You thought you’d taken something real, with which you might take my power or my happiness; or perhaps, you might make me love you.
But I’ve always had a changeling heart.
And, like all things of the Fae, when brought to the mortal world, it crumbles into utter dust.
I can live without it for longer than you know; there’s enough fizzing in my head to keep any respiratory system busy for months. And in the meantime, I’m building a new heart. More glittering, more darkling, more shimmery, more twisted and strange. And perhaps a little eldritch; the next thief won’t end up with dust, but with demons.
Sweet new heart, clanking and churning, forcing blood to stream through my body via sheer intimidation.
What thief comes next?
What cunning robber?
I bid you welcome.
I have a shiny thing to show you. You may look, but you can’t keep it.
Oh, no. Don’t keep it.
Don’t steal it away with you.
I’d just hate it if you did that.
